Stock Iodine 10% is available in a 10l and 20l container.
Stock Iodine contains Iodine in the form of Potassium Iodide which is best metabolized by the body into Iodine (salt) when ingested. Therefore stock Iodine is best used for oral Iodine supplementation through troughs or any water access containers. Dosage refers to drops, a drop = a teaspoon or 2.5 mls.
Iodine is an important trace element, Iodine deficiency can occur in areas where the water and feed are deficient in iodine. Goitrogenic (producing goitre) feeds such as brassicas (e.g. rape, kale, turnips, cabbage) will aggravate a
deficiency. Star grass and clover can cause an indirect iodine deficiency through the production of cyanogens.
In calves, deficiency symptoms are stunted growth, an enlarged thyroid gland, apathy, blindness, hairlessness and a harsh coat. In cows, an iodine deficiency results in retained placentas and also impairs reproductive performance.
Iodine should be dispersed throughout troughs because iodine in large quantities is extremely toxic.
