A virucidal disinfectant that is also bactericidal and fungicidal is likely to kill reovirus. Reoviruses are viruses, and the term “virucidal” specifically means the disinfectant is effective against viruses. Since reoviruses are also susceptible to disinfectants that kill bacteria and fungi, a product with all three properties should be effective.
Here’s why:
- Virucidal: This indicates the disinfectant can inactivate or destroy viruses.
- Bactericidal: This means the disinfectant can kill bacteria.
- Fungicidal: This means the disinfectant can kill fungi.
- Reovirus: These are viruses, specifically belonging to the Reoviridae family according to a science website.
Therefore, a disinfectant with all these properties should effectively target and eliminate reoviruses. For example, VirkonS is used to eradicate exotic Newcastle Disease Virus, a type of virus, on farms.
